Previously a tenanted farm, the original building was typical of a Yorkshire Dales working farmhouse, with modest rooms and draughty corridors both upstairs and down. Working with the Bolton Abbey team who had the support of the Duke and Duchess, we opened up the internal space, removing corridors and created one through space in the middle of the house.
The dining area was made much larger by utilizing space previously housing the old boiler, whilst at the same time a new built for purpose extension was designed to contain the new boiler.
Soft furnishings were specified throughout the property and some antiques were sourced from the original Chatsworth Estate who provided assistance in procuring others.
The aim was for people holidaying in the cottage to feel like a guest of the Duke and Duchess. The provision of a selection of items such as playing cards, games, books and a dog bed complete with dog-toys adds the finishing personal touch.
